Director of Programs
at Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. We’re the largest private funder of Alzheimer research and the premier source of information and support for the estimated 5.5 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease, their families and caregivers.
Reporting to the Vermont Chapter Executive Director, the Director of Programs position is responsible for the successful planning and delivery of programs and services, utilizing a volunteer delivery model with trained and supported volunteers delivering a majority of our community education and support group programs. Care and support efforts support of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Common Program Plan and in accordance with the National strategic implementation plan. The position is based in the Williston, VT office but serves the entire state, working with volunteers where possible to deliver education programs, support groups, safety services and early stage programs. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The Chapter is responsible for follow up to appropriate Helpline calls and need for care consultations and will work with the staff resources of the MA/NH Chapter to deliver on these services.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and oversight to ensure effective integration of strategic tactics to support the Common Program Plan, including planning, promoting, budgeting, data analysis and evaluation.
- Sets strategic direction for programs and services delivery in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Develops and supervises an annual work plan for programs and services in alignment with the National Alzheimer Association's strategic plan to meet the needs of the Vermont Chapter’s territory.
- Recruit, train, coach and supervise program volunteers prioritizing support group facilitators, community educators and early stage social engagement
- Within the professional community, expand and manage community outreach including community education, physician outreach, support services and early stage engagement. Work with the Chapter Executive Director and collaborate with New England Alzheimer’s Association colleagues to engage clinicians and health care systems to improve the quality of care delivered to families living with dementia.
- With the general public, serve as local point of contact for information and referrals for persons living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia and their caregivers.
- Represent the Association at public events, conferences, workshops and media events.
- Assure integration of program planning and implementation efforts across the organization, linking programs and services with public policy, volunteer recruitment, and development.
- Bachelor's degree in health care management, social work, gerontology, psychology, counseling, nursing or related field required. Master Degree preferred.
- 3-5 years’ leadership experience implementing and delivering community based programs including needs assessment, program development, delivery and management.
- 3-5 years’ experience working in Alzheimer's or dementia field preferred.
- Proven success in building strong and productive work teams, successfully using volunteers for program delivery and community engagement and nurturing community relationships.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Vermont’s aging community and senior resource networks.
- Knowledge of risk management issues related to health care. I.e. high risk callers and adult victims of abuse/neglect.
- Familiarity with fundraising and grant management.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Chrome and social media platforms.
- Ability to travel throughout state in private, insured vehicle.
- Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
