Jobing Description

Trail Construction Intern

What would you do?

* Work with members of the GMC's Long Trail Patrol trail crew.
* Use simple tools and traditional techniques to hand build hiking trails. Learn to construct stairs and walls out of stone. Learn to design a path so that it minimizes environmental impact and is fun to walk on. These are skills you can learn only by working with experienced people.
* Help with reconstruction of historic backcountry shelters. (Take note that shelter projects have a limited number of openings.)
* Live in the mountains.( The crew camps out for a week at a time - but Interns may work partial weeks if desired.)
* Develop ability to work positively in a small, tight knit group. Crews are usually 6 - 8 people; with a ratio of 50:50 women/men.

Aside from experience, what is the "pay"? Housing. GMC is happy to work with school faculty so that intern may earn school credit.

You should think about applying if you . . . Desire to work hard with both your head and your hands. Want to be outside all the time. Have camping experience. Willing to learn trail skills. Willing and able to work together with like minded young people of all ages.

When would you work? This internship is perfect for people who can work only part time or for part of the season. Crews work June - September, Monday through Friday each week. Interns can set up a schedule that works for them (such as full time for one month - or two days a week all summer. Full time is ok, too!)
