Bennington College seeks a highly motivated, skilled and imaginative candidate to join the Information Technology/Information Systems team to help design, implement and optimize the College s systems infrastructure (including Directory Services, Application Delivery, Converged Networks, Hosted Services, File Serving, Virtual Machines, Systems Management, Capacity Planning, and Disaster Avoidance). The candidate must have a strong background in Directory Services and Virtualization, as well as strong planning and communication skills. The Systems Engineer will contribute to the overall success of the IT organization by providing recommendations and key insight into the technological path of school, as well as working closely with students, faculty and staff on IT/IS issues.

Position description includes the following:

* Perform infrastructure service implementations, performance analysis and optimization, monitoring, problem resolution, upgrade planning and execution, and process creation and documentation.
* Continually analyze and work to improve quality of services offered by IT.
* Ensure new Directory Service technologies are adequately tested and integrated with Infrastructure and Application Services.
* Optimize or re-design existing infrastructure services as needed.
* Ensure service availability & reliability of all infrastructure services.
* Suggest improvements based on technology, best practices, and/or changing requirements.
* Provide regular management updates on advantages and potential opportunities for new technologies and automation.
* Assist Infrastructure Operations with testing & implementation of new technologies and/or services including methods, policies and procedures for installation, management, monitoring and support.
* Help resolve complex IT issues in a Tier 2 capacity.
* Train/Mentor junior staff members as appropriate.

Qualifications must include a Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree and 5 years of experience which must include demonstrated experience in the following areas: design/support of Enterprise environments with over 1000 users, designing, implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting in a large Microsoft Active Directory environment, and experience working with Windows Server environments. The position requires experience with VMware Platform and Storage Area Network Platforms, proficiency in DNS, DHCP, Print Services, File Sharing and experience with directory integration with 3rd Party Applications and hosted services as well as experience with mission-critical services and applications in a global enterprise environment. Candidates must possess highly developed oral and written communication and leadership skills, strong time-management and prioritizing skills, and must be able to work well and collaborate with other staff members with various skill levels. We seek a candidate who possesses strong analytical skills coupled with technical creativity and vision; a self-motivator - someone who is able to take tasks or projects and run with them. One or more industry certifications (i.e., VMWare, Microsoft, Cisco) desired.
