STORE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose: To oversee the management of assigned departments to meet Co-op goals for sales, margins, labor and customer service. To serve as a member of the Management and CORE Teams and to support the achievement of the Co-op?s Ends policies.
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Grocery Manager, Grocery Operations Manager, Meat and Seafood Manager, Produce Manager, Wellness Manager, Beer and Wine Manager, Cheese Manager, and Culinary Manager
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a strong management presence in store at all times (including coverage for department managers due to absence or operating needs)
- Ensure regular department inventories and appropriate product mix
- Participate in development of the Annual Business Plan and the annual operating and capital budgets for the departments
- Monitor deviations from budget, take corrective action and report actions taken
- Assist in the planning and implementation of department layouts and product locations for sales volume, aesthetics and shopping and stocking efficiency
- Implement department capital expenditures as per the Annual Business Plan
- Supervise significant Personnel actions of the assigned departments including weekly scheduling for labor efficiencies
- Attend Management Team Meetings and Board of Directors Meetings as required
- Coordination of Promotional Programs through internal advertising services
- Develop and administer Sampling and Cross Merchandising
- Oversee Category Management
- Ensure compliance with all government regulations relative to retail activities
Qualifications:
- Significant years of retail store management (preferably in a natural foods store) including exposure to government laws and reporting compliance
- Supervisory experience: hiring, training, motivating, scheduling, etc.
- Ability to read financial statements: experience in establishing margins and pricing
- Knowledge of and experience with category management
- Organized; consistently follows through on commitments
- Knowledge of current trends in natural foods industry
- Excellent communications skills, ability to provide clear directions; good listener; sense of humor
- Basic command of computer applications

What an exciting time! We are the Brattleboro Food Cooperative, a community of shareholders, employees and great customers, committed to natural and organic foods. We will soon move into a brand new store and we have an immediate opening for a Store Manager to help us meet the challenges of our new venture. Reporting to our General Manager, this position oversees all of our Retail Grocery Operations.
We?re looking for a special person... someone who will oversee the management of assigned departments to meet our goals for sales, margins, labor and customer service.
So...what should you bring to the table? Well...a good sense of humor, at least five to seven years management experience in the retail food industry (ideally with a natural and organic background), experience with the development of Business Plans and annual operating and capital budgets, a familiarity with Category Management, experience in meeting margins targets, a knowledge of industry trends, food service regulations, an ability to work with diverse communities and strong computer skills.
