Plant Engineer Northern VT Our client is one of the largest manufacturers of wood products and has been in business for more than 50 years. They have multiple locations across North America and are seeking a Plant Engineer for their location in Northern VT. PE will report to the Operations Manager and will have close working relationships with the Division Engineering Team. They will direct the Maintenance Supervisor, Boiler room, and Purchasing Agent. Incumbent will become familiar with the total production operation before undertaking other aspects of this position and is expected to become proficient in understanding plant operations in parallel with the responsibilities of this job. Major Responsibilities: 1. Plant Operations Oversee maintenance of plant equipment so as to maximize its capability, minimize downtime, and minimize employee exposure to unsafe conditions. Devise, organize, and maintain an effective preventive maintenance program. Constantly search for methods to upgrade equipment and personnel productivity through contacts with machinery manufacturers, visits to other plants, contacts with other engineers, etc. Work closely with production supervisors on special projects. Monitor and supervise all maintenance purchasing to maintain repair parts inventory at an adequate level without overstocking. Monitor maintenance expenses and keep within budgeted requirements. Liaison with government regulatory agencies and insurance companies regarding safety, environmental quality issues, loss prevention, and preparation of needed permits or reports. Work closely with Safety Committee, BST committee and others on Safety Program. 2. Capital and Major Maintenance Conduct economic analyses and feasibility studies for new equipment installation, and modification of existing equipment and systems. Implement capital/major maintenance projects, while maintaining cost control. 3. Employee Relations: Recruit, hire, train and direct the maintenance crew with an objective of constantly upgrading the quality and professionalism of work performed and personnel involved. Provide cross-training to facilitate coverage of all shifts during personnel shortages or emergencies. See that maintenance personnel are thoroughly trained to safely do their jobs. Provide guidance to employees on company policies and administer discipline as necessary. 4. Administrative: Prepare maintenance, manning, and capital budget proposals annually. Monitor employee time records and fill out required reports. Education / Industry Experience: B.S.
