Outdoor Leadership Intern

What would you do?

* Learn how to lead groups of people outdoors. Build hiking trails in southern Vermont with a volunteer trail crew.
* Use simple tools and traditional techniques to hand build pieces of the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail.
* Welcome volunteers into the crew. They are of diverse ages and come from all over the U.S. and the world. A new group of volunteers joins the crew each week.
* Apprentice to the paid staff - Crew Leader and Crew Coordinator. Learn to motivate people to work hard and act like a crew. Get a handle on how to stay calm and organized in hectic situations.
* Live in the mountains. The crew camps out for a week at a time.

Aside from experience, what is the "pay"? Both housing and food are provided, as well as transportation during the work season. GMC is happy to work with faculty so intern may earn school credit.

You should think about applying if you are . . . Eager to learn for real the essential basics of leading groups in the mountains. Desire to work hard and live in the woods. Happy to meet new people. Interested in camping, backpacking, building hiking trails.

When would you work? Must be able to work full time mid - July through late September. (Possibility of longer season if desired.)
