Looking for a unique leadership role? Willis Programs is seeking a Program Manager for our Healthcare Program segment. The role combines business development and underwriting for a national property/casualty and professional liability insurance program. This multi-faceted leadership position drives new business opportunities, manages the day-to-day underwriting activities of the program, underwrites assigned territories or accounts, and directly manages the program underwriters and associate underwriters. The Program Manager serves as a liaison with industry associations, attending and exhibiting at conventions and meetings as a representative of the program. The Program Manager also maintains strong relationships with existing program agents/brokers and develops new relationships with agents committed to the program. Additionally, the Program Manager works closely with the Director of Marketing to establish target marketing campaigns and activities to promote the program. The position frequently interacts with the program insurance carrier in conjunction with the Chief Underwriting Officer. The Program Manager participates in quarterly claims review meetings. The position will also encounter frequent projects and special assignments related to the program operation. Other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Manages day-to-day underwriting activities for the program: Includes evaluation and assignment of program territories and account assignments; review and calibration of workflow and processes in conjunction with Director of Client Services; responding to associate inquires and managing the program distribution network; tracks and monitors financial results, hit ratio and retention metrics, and participates in revenue meetings and budget planning. The Program Manager will also conduct Compliance and Underwriting Self-Assessments for the underwriting team with the guidance of the Compliance Officer.
* Underwrites assigned territories or accounts: Performs underwriting in compliance with the carrier underwriting guidelines, state regulations and internal procedures and compliance protocols; meets service delivery standards for key underwriting metrics
* Directly manages the underwriters and associate underwriters: day-to-day supervisory responsibility as well as growth mentoring, training, attendance tracking and performance evaluations
* Attends industry association conventions and meetings; provides education/training through presentations to association membership
* Manages existing, and promotes new, relationships with independent agents/brokers: Working collaboratively with all underwriters for the program, fosters and maintains long-term, committed relationships with agent/brokers for the program; communicates submission standards and develops business plans for quality agent/broker partnerships
* Directs target marketing campaigns: Provides direction to Marketing for target campaigns to promote and drive business opportunities for the program in alignment with the dynamics of the underwriting guidelines and appetite; this includes advertisements, consultation on web site content and direct mailing or telemarketing campaigns
* Interacts with program carrier: communicates referrals and program questions to carrier; attends program summit and other program-specific meetings with carrier; works in conjunction with CUO and carrier to continuously calibrate underwriting guidelines
* Participates in quarterly claim review meetings; will also review and approve all claim declination letters prior to any notification being sent to the insured by the TPA/carrier
* Completes special projects and assignments as required by various members of senior management
Skills / Qualifications
B.A. or B.S. or equivalent experience; Property and Casualty license mandatory; continuing education as required to maintain license and to keep abreast of changes in insurance industry; computer skills; communication and writing skills; energy and enthusiasm; flexibility; ability to perform under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
Five to seven years insurance experience including underwriting and a working knowledge of professional liability required. Must have a good understanding of the insurance carrier and brokerage business, preferably with MGA experience. Experience in the specific program industry niche or allied fields preferred.
Prior management experience a plus.
