The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for evaluating, developing, recommending, and implementing provider organization's policies and procedures related to the delivery of safe and efficient quality nursing care. Plans and directs the activities of a staff of managerial, professional/technical, and auxiliary nursing personnel. Responsible for the practice of nursing and maintaining the Standards of Nursing Practice throughout the organization. The CNO is an active participant at the highest governing, decision making, and strategic planning body of the organization.
Minimum Education
- Masters in Nursing, Health or Business Administration, or related area required. If Masters is not in Nursing, then BSN is required.
Minimum Work Experience
- 7 - 10 years progressive clinical and leadership nursing experience in a comparable medical center environment.
- Track record of enhancing the professional development of nursing staff by implementing educational, clinical and leadership programs.
- Building and maintaining a positive and professional partnership with all customers.
- Experience in defining, articulating, marketing, and implementing a vision for the practice of nursing.
- Proven success in developing and motivating staff.
- Experience in designing effective recruitment and retention programs for staff.
- Extensive experience with unions.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Current Vt. State Nursing License.
- ANCC NE-BC Certification.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the ANCC Magnet Framework for nursing excellence required.
- Knowledge of the Baldrige framework for performance excellence is preferred.
- Able to respectfully challenge the thinking of others and provide seasoned counsel and advice.
- Extensive knowledge of unions.
- Knowledgeable about customer service and the delivery of high-quality services.
- Knowledge of health care environment trends and issues preferred.
- Demonstrated success in developing strong relationships with Senior Leadership to collaborate on operational improvements.
